FORMATION
With
a population of nearly one billion and with about 270
years of Masonic history, India has just near about
22,000 freemasons belonging to various constitutions
functioning in India. |

With a view to spread freemasonry in
India at a faster speed, and to restore harmonious Freemasonry
in the sub-continent, many senior brethren of Grand
Lodge of India, held in high esteem by its members,
decided to form new Grand Lodges that would work with
each other in peace, harmony and propagate universal
brotherhood. Hence was consecrated and constituted in
1995, the Grand Lodge of Upper India, at Chandigarh
according to the procedure as specified by the United
Grand Lodge of England in its Book of Constitutions.

The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient,
Free and Accepted Masons of Upper India has been established
lawfully and regularly by the following three regularly warranted,
consecrated and constituted lodges. These lodges passed unanimous
resolutions in their respective lodge meetings that a new
independent and sovereign Grand Lodge be established in the
name and style of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient,
Free and Accepted Masons of Upper India having jurisdiction
over entire Republic of India. The three foundation lodges
are:

Lodge Chandigarh No. 1
Resolution unanimously passed on 24-12-1994 in regular meeting.
2.
Lodge Chandimandir No. 2
Resolution unanimously passed on 05-12-1994 in regular meeting.
3.
Lodge S.A.S. Nagar No. 3
Resolution unanimously passed on 08-01-1995 in regular meeting.

The
Grand Lodge of Upper India was consecrated, constituted,
established and proclaimed on Saturday, the 21st
day of January 1995 at 4.00 p.m. at a Grand Festival
held at Freemasons’ Hall, Daon, Chandigarh,
according to the ancient customs, traditions and
ceremonies of the Order by R.W.Bro. Iqbal Singh
Ranauta, assisted by the officers of his Consecrating
team.

Dr. Narender Vasishta was installed as M.W. the
first Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Upper
India.
R.W.Bro.
Jagjit Singh Paik was invested founder Grand Secretary.
The
main interest of our Grand Lodge being to propagate
and spread the ideals of Freemasonry and look
after the interests of the fraternity in India,

On 8th December 1995 at Amritsar,
Lodge Harmandir passed a unanimous resolution
to join and obtain a warrant from Grand Lodge
of Upper India and work and abide under its constitution.
The request was granted and, today, it is functioning
under the warrant of Grand Lodge of Upper India
as Lodge Harmandir No. 20.

On
7th October 1999 at Chandigarh, Lodge Yadavindra
passed a similar resolution and obtained warrant
No. 21 from the Grand Lodge of Upper India and
it is now functioning under the new warrant.
On
19th August 2001, Lodge Temperance was consecrated
to meet at Amritsar.
On
9th November 2001, Lodge Shimla Valley was consecrated
to meet at Shimla.
On
4th June 2004, Lodge Le Corbusier No. 24 was consecrated
to meet at Chandigarh. The consecration ceremony
was performed by M.W.Bro. Yves Max Viton, Grand
Master of Grand
Lodge of France and his team of officers.
